Women in Real Estate: Vicky Goslettt

Vicky Goslett has played a pivotal role in the brand’s success, spearheading innovative marketing campaigns that have won the brand numerous accolades and awards, establishing RE/MAX as a household brand that consumers instantly recognise.

One of these award-winning marketing campaigns was a world- and industry-first anamorphic programmatic Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) billboard campaign that ran in the V&A Waterfront during peak tourist season in November and December 2022. This campaign won Gold at The Wires in London for Best Use of Digital Out Of Home and was also named "Best OOH" at the MMA South Africa Smarties Awards in 2024.

For the third time, Vicky also recently led the team towards claiming the coveted title of “Best Luxury Real Estate Agency in South Africa” in the 2024 Luxury Lifestyle Awards.

Vicky’s Five Tips:

1. Mentorship

One of the easiest ways to make a difference in any industry is to take on a mentorship role for those who are newer to the industry than you are. It is not easy to close your first sale, which is why active mentorship plays such a pivotal role in shaping somebody’s success in this industry. Your support and guidance towards others in the industry can create opportunities for the next generation of property professional.

2. Establishing Balance

The importance of maintaining a sustainable work-life balance has, thankfully, become increasingly the norm instead of the exception these days. Because women are typically the ones who must juggle school runs, extra-curricular activities, doctor’s appointments, and a myriad of other tasks, it is often women who drive this important issue forward. The real estate profession allows women the freedom to manage their own hours, but this can also mean sacrificing personal and family time to chase after the next deal. By maintaining a healthy life-work balance, you give other women in the industry the freedom to do the same. Life is too short for regrets so work hard so you can play hard.

3. Have your voice heard

If I can share any advice, it would be to trust your gut and to believe that your ideas hold value and are worth sharing. A lot of women shy away from voicing their opinions without realising how much value they bring to the table. A women’s perspective tends to shed new light on an issue and can contribute to more comprehensive decision-making processes.

4. Take on leadership roles

The real estate agent profession is predominantly female, but the same cannot be said of the demographics for those who own or manage a real estate office. For greater diversity of thought and to drive further change in this industry, I would encourage women to embrace leadership roles and to actively pursue opportunities to run an office or lead a team.

5. Greater Compassion

As the local area expert, it is important to give back to the communities you serve. This includes advocating for affordable housing, community spaces, and developments that enhance the quality of life for residents. Women could lean into their compassionate and relational nature to find the true pain points in their areas of operation and to find ways to address them.
