Private Property recently partnered with property industry heavy weights to support the organization called Khaya Lam. An initiative that works tirelessly to hand over title deeds to those who deserve them most.
Private Property are striving to make massive changes in communities around South Africa, handing over 30 title deeds to the community of Ngwathe.
"As Private Property we're really excited about the Khaya Lam project. I mean, it aligns very closely with our core values which is to help South Africans realize their property dream. In the past, there were major injustices and we feel very strongly about helping the process of righting those wrongs. We're uniquely positioned as Private Property, as a brand, to bring the whole industry together and get behind this sort of great cause" says Bryan Courtney, Chief Marketing Officer at Private Property.
Here at Nakedi Sports Center and Tumahole, title deeds were handed over to 30 deserving families. This was made possible by a charity golf day that Private Property recently hosted to raised funds to pay for those deeds.
"When people own what is rightfully theirs and they can truly call their plot of land their home, we believe that the dynamics of their situation and the country at large would change. By freeing the dead capsule that has locked people in this economic stray jacket for far too long, we could begin to see the country's future brighten. And securing property rights is a concrete step towards creating a freer and more prosperous society" says Jason Urbach, Director of the Free Market Foundation.
"Every single titling ceremony is a unique experience. And it really is a heart warming and emotional experience to see people that, often times, have been waiting their entire lives for that very valuable piece of paper to say that this is my property and no one else can take my property away from me" says Jason Urbach.
"Seeing some of the looks on the peoples' faces and their smiles. I think they really understood the opportunity of being part of the economy of South Africa, potentially handing down homes to their loved ones when they pass on. So many benefits to owning your own title deed, so it was a really special time" says Bryan Courtney.
Ngwathe resident, Maria Mokhanedi, shares her experience of finally being able to have the title deed to her home,
"I'm feeling very great because a title deed is hard to get. This is my house behind me. I'm very happy to have a title deed. This is going to make a big difference because now I know that if something had to happen to me, I have the title deeds for children and my family. My kids are going to be happy to have their family together without a crisis" Maria Mokhanedi.
Bryan Courtney went on to share some of the plans looking toward the future for Private Property and Khaya Lam
"On a micro level, internally in our offices, we're getting our internal teams to come up with their own fundraising concepts to support Khaya Lam. So within each department, they're going to potentially raise a home per department, challenge one another. So that's cool on a micro level. But on a macro level, as a property portal, we have a unique position to challenge the rest of the industry, be it the state agents, be it bond originators, be it the other partners, to really come to the party and hopefully make a difference because the reality is property is very close to the hearts of South Africans and we feel that we have a responsibility to make a difference" Bryan Courtney.
Private property is leading the pack in driving the change in the communities around South Africa, by supporting initiatives such as Khaya Lam, change is happening.
