According to a recent report released by AfrAsia Bank and New World Health, Johannesburg plays host to the majority of Africa’s dollar millionaires.
The numbers are up on previous reports. In June it was estimated that there were around 163 000 millionaires living in Africa, up from 66 000 in 2000. Collectively, these high net worth individuals hold a combined wealth of $670bn.
South Africa is reportedly currently home to 46 800 millionaires or 30 percent of Africa’s top earners. Of that, 23 000 millionaires call Johannesburg home. It’s anticipated that this number will grow to 32 000 over the next ten years. Cape Town came in at number four while Durban and Pretoria were ranked 7th and 8th respectively.
The incredible uptick in earnings has been attributed to Africa’s growth as a strong emerging economic player which has yielded opportunities aplenty for savvy investors and developers across various segments.
