The Southern Suburbs make up some of the most popular residential areas in Cape Town. With large plots of land and roomy homes, the area attracts a fairly affluent crowd. The suburbs in the area include Rondebosch, Claremont, Plumstead, Ottery, Wynberg, Newlands, Constantia and Bishopscourt, Pinelands, Observatory, Tokai, Bergvliet, Kenilworth and Steenberg. Peaceful, quiet and leafy, the Southern Suburbs are seen by many as the perfect place to bring up children.

There are fantastic pubs and restaurants around like Forries and the Springbok Pub in Newlands.




It is a leafy neighbourhood, has a strong neighbourhood watch, is close to Cavendish and ten minutes to the City. My husband walks to the rugby stadium and we have fabulous restaurants on our doorstep.




Close proximity to the University of Cape Town, and good schools such as Rondebosch Boys, Rustenberg Girls, SACS, Hershel Girls School, Bishops Diocesan College , Westerford High School and Reddam House make it a great location for families.



There is a diverse mix of amenities. The social scene is great and there are lots of bars and clubs. There is always something to do on weekends


Outdoor lovers revel in the wide open spaces like Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden that can be found in the Southern Suburbs. For those seeking entertainment or the arts, theatres like the Baxter and many art galleries both large and small can be visited.


I cannot imagine living anywhere but Harfield Village with its strong, mixed community and wonderful spirit. It's a village in the true sense of the word with Hampstead Heath Park at its centre


Newlands Rugby Stadium and Newlands Cricket Ground can both be found in the Southern Suburbs. They are the home of the Stormers rugby and Cape Cobras cricket teams respectively.
