Why residents love Norwood, Gauteng

Buyers are attracted to the popular suburb of Norwood, Gauteng because of its trendy and cosmopolitan village feel.

Buyers are attracted to the popular suburb of Norwood because of its trendy and cosmopolitan village feel.

Estate agents in the area say that Norwood, which borders the Johannesburg suburbs of Orchards, Oaklands and Houghton, is a neighbourhood where old meets new; many homes were built in the 1920s and 1930s and there also are a number of beautiful contemporary buildings in the area.

With trendy restaurants on Grant Avenue o¬ffering an unforgettable gastronomic experience, buyers are spoilt for choice.

Resident Leanne Shapiro was drawn to the vibe of Norwood. She has lived in area for 15 years and says she can’t imagine living anywhere else. “Norwood is a suburb that constantly feels alive, almost as if it has a heartbeat of its own. Importantly, what I enjoy most about living in Norwood is the convenience of having my favourite grocery stores, gift shops and restaurants right on my doorstep; it’s truly priceless,” she says.

Norwood is also close to Sandton and Melrose Arch and has easy access to main roads and highways, the OR Tambo International Airport, the Gautrain stations in Rosebank and Sandton, some of Johannesburg’s best private schools, hospitals, shopping centres and places of worship.

Although the majority of properties are freehold homes, there are also several cluster and sectional title developments. Agents say many older homes in the area have been renovated to give them a modern look.

The high number of residents who can be seen either running or walking in the neighbourhood is a testament to the area’s safety. What’s more, agents say savvy buyers get value for money on the properties the suburb has to o¬ffer.

Leanne says Norwood is like a quaint, familiar and welcoming small town.

Living in Norwood is a beautiful privilege – it's an area that climbs into your soul and truly makes you feel at home

Rosebank and Parktown
On trend and arty
Rosebank is a multi-cultural, vibrant and exciting suburb of Johannesburg, with an outdoorsy atmosphere. It is a trendy suburb, business centre and tourist attraction in one of Johannesburg's up-market areas. Although Rosebank is home to many head offices, the district also provides plenty of entertainment to its residents and visitors at its variety of shopping malls, restaurants, markets, luxurious hotels, cinemas, art galleries and night clubs. Parktown is home to many businesses, hospitals, schools, churches and restaurants, whilst still maintaining quiet residential areas. Parktown is an old and established suburb, with leafy avenues and a serene atmosphere. Large mansions are a dominant feature in this exclusive suburb, and new developments are rare.
