Mexican food has become more popular with each passing year. Perron, Illovo

Perron might just be the best-known Mexican restaurant in Joburg, and it’s probably been around the longest too. The restaurant is known for its incredible menu that includes everything from Mexican street food nibbles, to crispy tacos, floury tortillas and, of course, the amazing selection of desserts. Paired with a Mexican beer like Corona or Sol, or a shot of one of the numerous tequilas available, you can’t go wrong with Perron if you’re searching for a vibrant (and delicious!) Mexican experience.

Don’t miss: The slow-cooked pork taco.

Salsa Mexican Grill, Parkhurst

Whether you’re talking about the fresh sauce that you’ll find atop your taco, or the sexy Latin dance (salsa can only mean great things), this amazing little Parkhurst spot is the perfect addition to our salsa addictions. With jugs of frozen margaritas to get your evening started and a huge selection of dishes for you to try, Salsa is the perfect place to throw a Mexican-style fiesta, complete with singing waiters. Be sure to book a table for your birthday!

Don’t miss: The nachos.

El Jalapeño, Linden

Undeniably authentic, El Jalapeño serves the kind of Mexican and Latin American cuisine that you would actually find on a holiday in Mexico. With a Latin American chef at the helm in the kitchen, this rustic little eatery serves affordable but tasty food, and often hosts quiz nights, Latin music nights and salsa dancing evenings. A family-run establishment, El Jalapeño is a great spot to take everyone from your grandparents to your kids for a night of food and festivity.

Don’t miss: The jalapeño poppers.

Johannesburg CBD and Bruma
Vibrant big city living
The Johannesburg CBD encompasses a vast area, ranging from the affluent areas like Linksfield, to more affordable areas like Hillbrow and Bruma. After years of being seen as a no-go area by many, the city centre has bounced back to being in demand again. A massive urban regeneration project has seen money pumped into the area and occupancy is up and crime is down - a sure sign that it's working. The Maboneng precinct, for instance, now attracts a hip, arty crowd to its bars, restaurants, shops and art galleries.
Sandton
Work hard, play hard...then relax
Sandton is a vibrant, modern neighbourhood that contains the richest square mile in Africa. It is the business gateway into Africa for many large corporations and attracts thousands of ambitious people seeking their fortunes. But Sandton is not just about big business, residents find plenty of time for leisure too. World class shopping centres, and a buzzing social scene are a huge hit with the young and young at heart. Perhaps surprisingly, there is a huge amount of green space in the area that residents take advantage of to exercise or just take a breather.
