Suburb focus on Kamma Park

This quiet, peaceful area on the outskirts of PE is popular for its countryside appeal.

Kamma Park is a real nature lovers’ dream nestled on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth. Tucked between Lorraine and Theescombe, this quaint area has a green countryside appeal.

A big drawcard for residents is the fact that while it’s still close enough to everything that makes life more convenient, it’s far enough into the “country” that residents are spared from the noise of traffic and the general hustle and bustle of city life. The area is especially quiet and peaceful during non-peak traffic times. There are more species of birds that visit residents’ yards than in many other areas. This is because the area is on the perimeter of the city and close to farms and plots further up Kragga Kamma Road.

The Kragga Kamma Game Park, which is a few minutes’ drive away, is home to numerous African game including buffalo, white rhino, cheetah, giraffe, zebra and buck. These animals roam freely on the park without fear of being hunted by poachers.

There have been quite a few developments to the area and surrounds; recently a Checkers has sprung up down the road. Until Baywest Mall was built, the Walker Drive Mall was the only shopping centre in the area.

Another big drawcard of the area, especially for homeowners, are the large erven typically found here. While many of the houses in the area are usually smaller two-bedroom homes, the area has started to see the development of more townhouse complexes. The area is also family-friendly, attracting many new parents. Parents can walk or cycle with their children without having to worry about cars speeding past.

Everything is so green. Even in the drought the grass is greener than most other places in PE.
