Paul Bakery rises in Melrose Arch

Beloved French bakery, Paul, opens in Melrose Arch to bring its tasty baked treats to South Africa for the first time.

The name Paul is synonymous with delicious cakes, pastries and breads, and it’s a brand that can now name South Africa among its impressive list of global homes. In March, the internationally renowned French bakery-cafe set up its flagship South African store in Melrose Arch, making it a must-visit destination for foodies and anyone with a healthy appetite.

First opened in Northern France in 1889, the Paul brand is synonymous with passion for quality creations. The finest baking traditions, passed down over five generations, mix perfectly with the ethos of constant innovation to create the winning Paul recipe that has been behind the worldwide success. The Paul values of “passion”, “quality”, “French tradition”, and “family” are all represented in each store, and can be experienced in every bite.

The beautiful range of artisanal breads (which includes brioche, baguettes and the surprise loaf – a loaf of bread filled with gourmet sandwiches), as well as the range of exquisite cakes and bakes, means that there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Every loaf is handmade on site, so freshness is guaranteed as you sit and enjoy your Paul creation in a stylish setting that oozes French style: expect sleek furniture, checkerboard tiles, and plenty of French charm.

With seating for 180 people, the store is a bakery, patisserie, cafe and restaurant all in one. The team behind the Melrose Arch Paul plans to open five more stores across South Africa over the next five years. Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, there’s no wrong time to visit Paul, and with the signature display cabinet featuring a mouth-watering array of takeaway-friendly creations, you can also take a piece to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.

Rosebank and Parktown
On trend and arty
Rosebank is a multi-cultural, vibrant and exciting suburb of Johannesburg, with an outdoorsy atmosphere. It is a trendy suburb, business centre and tourist attraction in one of Johannesburg's up-market areas. Although Rosebank is home to many head offices, the district also provides plenty of entertainment to its residents and visitors at its variety of shopping malls, restaurants, markets, luxurious hotels, cinemas, art galleries and night clubs. Parktown is home to many businesses, hospitals, schools, churches and restaurants, whilst still maintaining quiet residential areas. Parktown is an old and established suburb, with leafy avenues and a serene atmosphere. Large mansions are a dominant feature in this exclusive suburb, and new developments are rare.
