Craft beer is catching on in the Eastern Cape

RocoMamas is the latest Nelson Mandela Bay outlet to offer craft beer.

If there's one thing regular beer drinkers are catching on to in a big way in the Eastern Cape it's craft beer. The number of pubs and restaurants offering artisan alternatives seems to be growing on a weekly basis.

One of the latest to join the laid-back hangouts in Nelson Mandela Bay is RocoMamas on the beachfront in Humewood, which is attracting many patrons despite the holidays being over.

With a range of thirst-quenching craft options available (bottled and on tap) – from the Jack Black and Cape Brewing Company ranges, to Citizen Alliance and Diplomat, and Darling Brew Bone Crusher and Slow Beer – you’ll easily find refreshing relief for your parched throat. Wine, shots and decadent shakes are also available.

RocoMamas is also known for its wings, ribs and smashburgers (beef, chicken and vegetarian) bursting with flavour.

There's ample choice on the burger front, and the BaconCheezeGuac option I chose was more than satisfying: 150g beef patty topped with bacon, aged cheddar, red onion, fresh guacamole, tomato and smoked mayo.

Served on a mini-breadboard with a side order of shoestring fries (even the small portion was generous), this was one scrumptious meal.

You can also create your own burger using a long list of extras that includes jalapenos, pickles, blue cheese dressing and saffron chilli chutney.

The service was quick and attentive, but never intrusive.

Taste for yourself:
