Atholl Heights in Durban’s Westville area is a popular choice for younger buyers attracted by the area’s community spirit and convenient location.
About the area
If Lightstone’s property statistics are anything to go by, Atholl Heights, situated within Westville, remains a popular choice for buyers. The majority of homes in this area are freestanding properties although there is a small sectional title component. In the last 12 months, 39 freehold properties have changed hands for an average price of R1,452m. So far this year, 13 freehold properties have been registered at the Deeds Office with an average selling price of R1,425m.
By all accounts the community spirit is high within this colourful spot, which is possibly why the percentage of residents who have lived in the area for longer than 11 years is a relatively high 52%. The statistics also show that younger people are becoming increasingly drawn to the area. A total of 56% of recent buyers were aged between 36 and 49 years old while 33% were aged between 18 and 35 years old.
The suburb is a mere 17km from central Durban and around 7km from The Pavilion Shopping Centre with its wide variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities. Because of its location, the area is also close to Pinetown and New Germany as well as being minutes away from the Westville campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Atholl Heights Primary School is well known and highly regarded throughout the Durban area. Although it could be regarded as the new kid on the block when compared to some of the older schools dotted around the city, the school has earned a solid reputation for academic excellence since it first opened its doors in 1977. Likewise, the Star College Boys’ and Girls’ high schools and the Star College Primary all have an excellent academic record.
We love living here, it's a friendly community and the perfect place to raise a family.
