Area and property guide to Sherwood

With many townhouses in the area, Sherwood seems to be the ideal place for a family just starting out or for retired couples.

About the area

Sherwood is a small, quiet suburb where community comes first. This is evident in the social media groups formed for everything from a neighbourhood watch to selling second-hand products and finding lost pets.

The family aspect of the suburb is also obvious in events such as The Food Shed, an evening market with something for everyone. It takes place on the first Friday of every month at the beautiful Sherwood Garden Centre in Walker Drive. The market transforms the garden centre into a wonderland of lights with a kids’ zone to keep children entertained.

With many townhouses in the area, Sherwood seems to be the ideal place for a family just starting out or for retired couples. There are also a number of large family homes in the area, which are big, beautiful and full of character.

Sherwood is considered a safe suburb and this can be attributed to an active neighbourhood watch and the fact that a burglar alarm company has its headquarters in the area. It is also very close to the Kabega Park police station.

Residents say the area is a great place to raise children as it’s peaceful and has many parks and green areas where kids can play. There are no schools in the immediate area, but Sherwood is close to good schools like Framesby High, Kabega Primary and Sunridge Primary schools.

One of the biggest drawcards of the area is its convenient location to many of Port Elizabeth’s most popular shopping centres such as Metlife Plaza and Kragga Kamma. Property prices have increased recently with the introduction of the popular Baywest Mall, which has also seen the area expand.

This friendly part of the city – part of which is a protected nature reserve – is growing from strength to strength with those in the market for a home queuing up to get in on the action.

Sherwood is a great suburb to live in. I can meet my girlfriends for coffee just up the road in Walker Drive and do my grocery shopping at Baywest just four minutes away from my house. I can go jogging in the morning and feel safe. Everybody is friendly and has a smile on their face.
