One of Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, Morningside is regarded by many as one of the most desirable areas to live in the city offering freestanding homes and complexes to suit all budgets.
For the past 17 years, Morningside has been home to Stewart Rider, chairman, Morningside Ext 40 Security Association, and his family. “Being close to Sandton CBD makes it great for those working in Sandton, and the whole of the northern suburbs are awash with fantastic schools, restaurants and shopping,” says Stewart.
He says that the suburb is conveniently tucked between Bryanston and Sandton along both sides of Rivonia Road, with quick and easy access via both the Grayston and Buccleuch interchanges that link to the N1, M1 and N3 highways.
The Sandton Gautrain station is a short drive away while the bus runs through the suburb making it easy to connect to the station. There is plenty of public transport from Metrobus and Putco buses, to minibus taxis, private metered taxis as well as Uber.
Stewart also notes that Morningside is truly a great place to raise a family pointing out that the Morningside Ext 40 Residents Security Association has focused a significant amount of time and effort over the years to ensuring the area is secure and attractive to buyers.
Morningside is home to the upmarket Morningside Shopping Centre, Redhill School, Sandton SAPS, Sandton Shul and the Sandton Islamic Association.
Other shopping centres include Morning Glen Mall and The Wedge with Rivonia Village, Sandton City and shopping centres in nearby Bryanston.
Although Morningside has seen its fair share of residential development, it has remained relatively quiet and low-key compared to its neighbours, which are home to thriving commercial nodes, and this attracts many young families to the area, say agents.
I like living in Morningside because of its central location, its remarkably quiet and peaceful, what’s more, it truly is a hidden gem of the northern suburbs that is not well known
