About the area
Perhaps best known for its racecourse, the suburb of Greyville is a vibrant, popular node within the Durban area. Sandwiched between Umgeni and Overport its neighbours include Berea and Essenwood. Although there are a number of freehold properties in the region, the majority of homes fall under the sectional title banner in the form of apartments.
This suburb is ideal for those who want to be in the thick of things; there's plenty to do and plenty to see. The Durban July may be the highlight of the horse racing fraternity, but Greyville Racecourse isn't only for those who want to spend a fortune on a designer outfit. Friday night racing is popular among the locals and there's an abundance of food available from takeaways and upmarket restaurants nearby. It's also home to the Royal Durban Golf Club, one of the few courses to be sited in a horse racing track.
Residents have the added advantage of having two of Durban’s best-known restaurants on their doorstep: Joop’s Place and 9th Avenue Bistro. Both tick all the fine-dining boxes and have become landmarks in this suburb. For those who want to kick back and relax with something not quite so fancy, there are numerous coffee shops and restaurants nearby as well as an all-night bakery for those who enjoy the odd midnight snack.
Residents have a number of shopping centres nearby to choose from, including Windermere Centre and Musgrave Centre. The area is also close to a number of factory outlets which generally sell well-known brands at good prices.
Durban’s oldest natural attraction, Durban Botanic Gardens, is close by, and in addition to hosting one of the finest collections of botanic species in Africa, it also acts as the backdrop to concerts and other forms of entertainment.
I love the vibe in this area. There is always something happening that makes living here exciting.
