The fourth season of Win a Home, proudly sponsored by Private Property, came to a dramatic end in the live finale on Friday 10 November 2017.
After weeks of high drama, innovative design and entertainment, the design contestants discovered who the winners of the Viewer’s Choice and Judge’s Choice awards were and one incredibly lucky viewer drew the key to a multi-million rand home on the Eye of Africa Golf Estate.
This year, design contestants competed as duos, creating double the drama and entertainment as big personalities showcased fresh ideas and celebrated local design.
Viewer’s Choice Award Winners
Throughout Win a Home, viewers could vote for their favourite Design Duo on the Private Property website as part of their entry into the grand prize competition. Team House and Leisure captured the hearts of the viewing public and were crowned the winners of the Viewer’s Choice award. As the winners of Viewer’s Choice, they received a cash prize of R20,000.
Judge’s Choice Award Winners
This season cemented the show’s place as South Africa’s favourite interior design reality TV competition, with #WinaHome was a top trending topic on social media for the duration of the show. Thousands of avid fans tuned in to find out which of the dynamic Design Duos would win the coveted R100,000 prize as Judges Choice. For their razzle-dazzle and unconventional style, it was Team Habitat who received a healthy boost to their bank balance. The duo was immediately overcome with emotion as Brad Muttitt and Abiah “Superstar” Mahlase burst into tears, along with their mentor, Amanda Graham of Habitat magazine. The flamboyant and bold couple, who also have a fashion label called AMEN, have said the win is a wonderful foundation upon which they can build an interior design business as an extension of their creative careers.
Grand Prize Winner
Hundreds of thousands of viewers entered the Win a Home Grand Prize competition this season, hoping to win the multi-million rand home. Six finalists were randomly selected to stand a chance of winning their choice of one of the three luxury cluster homes at Eye of Africa Golf and Residential Estate decorated by the Design Duos.
Win a Home’s grand prize is the largest of its kind on local television. All three decorated homes boast luxurious finishes by Plascon and Caesarstone, top quality bathroom fittings by Geberit, high-end mixers and taps by Grohe, superior flooring by Belgotex, and premier kitchen appliances by Grundig, which brings the value of each of the properties and its’ furnishings to over R3 million.
The six finalists were: Nokuthula Mahlhangu from Johannesburg, Francis Leibrandt from Mossel Bay, Roberta Zyster from Wellington, Lucia Muller from Meyersdal, Zintle Kom from Plumstead, and Shelane Naidoo from Durban.
The finalists had high hopes of finding the all-important lucky key in their safe, but it was Zintle Kom, who unlocked future prosperity as a new resident of Eye of Africa Estate.
The single mom from Cape Town had fallen on hard times and her and her two children are currently staying with friends. When she got the call that she was a finalist, she was driving and was so shocked that she had a minor vehicle accident.
As she celebrated her win, tears of joy streamed down her face and Kent Gush from Eye of Africa Estate was visibly moved as he welcomed her into the community. This is undoubtedly an exciting and well deserved new beginning for the scholarship programme manager and her young family. As Zintle describes it, the home is an answer to many prayers and a dream come true.
The elated winner has since visited the estate to view the completed homes and has claimed Team VISI’s house as her own.
Sue Clarke, Marketing and Media Manager at Private Property, who has been involved with the Win a Home show since inception had this to say, “It has been an absolute pleasure and an exciting journey working with the Win a Home team over the last 5 years. To see people’s lives changing for the better is so rewarding. We have turned 5 individuals into millionaires through property and all they needed to do was watch the show and vote on https://www.privateproperty.co.za/for their favourite designers. Our latest winner Zintle Kom, saw the competition advertised in the Private Property Newsletter and started following the show. She only voted for her favorite duo once, but that one time was all it took!”
Simon Bray, CEO of Private Property was blown away by this year’s design talent. He said, “In my opinion all the Design Duos were winners. House and Leisure won the Viewer’s Choice, Team Habitat won the Judges Choice, but for me the ultimate test was which home “sold” and the winner, Zintle Kom, chose Team Visi’s home as her dream home.”
