NINEonS encourages city dwellers to share their space

The latest development from Blok is moving with the times.

With more people choosing an urban lifestyle and investing or moving into city apartments, communal living and compact living have become an accepted part of life and urban residents are being encouraged to get to know their neighbours like in the good old days.

A fine example of this is urban property developer, Blok’s latest development, NINEonS.

Consisting of 23-apartments, NINEonS has a strong focus on compact urban living, with space maximised throughout the building's design, both inside and out , and a communal feel that will encourage neighbourly interaction, and also enhance security as a result.

We have found Green Point's community incredibly open to the ethos of shared spaces and working together for the good of the greater neighbourhood, and used this when conceptualising the NINEonS design

says Jacques van Embden, MD of Blok.

Huge advocates for maximising available space in homes, Blok always ensures that when they design an apartment they incorporate spaces where the use of Thoughtful Design leads to great functionality such as a home office or a bar that doubles as a den or sleeping area.

“With the theme of the building strongly focusing on compact urban living and the overwhelming demand for city apartments in this area, it was imperative that we delivered an excellent product while utilising duality in the building's design, in order to accommodate more people and maximise the space we had, and all to the high standard that Blok has become synonymous with,” says van Embden.

The building is angled at 45 degrees, thus ensuring that the North and West sun's rays equally benefit all of the apartments to maximise light and warmth for its residents. The building's vertical fins (a prominent design feature) offer privacy to each unit and a strong architectural aesthetic.

This perfect storm of design features; from the liberal use of glass to maximise the incredible light quality and views, to the modified angle of the building that allows for an open frontal facade whilst still maintaining privacy behind, has resulted in a building with a strong and interesting visual appeal depending on the angle from which it is viewed.

As with all of Blok's previous seven developments, the SMEG kitchens and oak flooring throughout, as well as built-in joinery such as home offices, built-in bars and seating on the balconies, have kept the Blok standard of quality and finishings throughout each apartment as high now as ever.

There are a variety of apartments on offer, including one-beds, two-beds and two gorgeous duplex penthouses, with prices starting from R2.5 million. NINEonS is scheduled for occupation in March 2018.
