The bustling town of Secunda in Mpumalanga will soon boast an exciting new development catering for retirees, and demand has been high.
The bustling town of Secunda will soon have its first ever retirement village. Billy Fick, Seeff’s licensee for Secunda says that this is a most welcome addition to the property market.
We have never before had a retirement village and the closest used to be in Bethal, some 40 kilometres away from Secunda, so this is a very exciting development, he says. The town is in real need of this since many people have spent their entire lives here and do not want to move away to retire.
An affordable option for retirees is, Davies Court, a block of flats, but it is old and semi-neglected. Residents do a lot of fundraisers themselves to pay for the upkeep of the building. It was originally built by the Govan Mbeki Municipality. The rent is very affordable, which results in a long waiting list.
The new retirement development, Terra Nova Retirement Village is currently being built and the first occupations are expected towards the end of 2017, says Fick.
The village will include a Curro-Health sub-acute hospital, medical assistance, dining hall with daily meals, functions hall, library, gymnasium and more.
There are various options with one, two and three bedrooms to choose from. The options include full as well as sectional title units and are priced from R550 000 (sectional title) to R1.8 million (full title).
Secunda is well under two hour’s drive from Johannesburg and offers a very laid-back lifestyle. It is renowned as ‘Cosmos Country’ and the surroundings explode with colour when pretty pink and white cosmos flowers bloom in the summer.
The town also has a beautiful waterfront, called Lake Umuzi that offers and excellent outing with many restaurants, ten-pin bowling, water games, a basement theatre and more. Lake Umuzi has the Umuzi Lodge for visitors. There is also a casino and country club and excellent facilities on hand for residents and visitors.
