Durban

Event: Monsters Ball at uShaka Marine World

uShaka is giving you a scary aquarium tour on this dark and stormy Halloween night. Take a trip through the magical undersea world, with a spooky twist. Trick or treating for the whole family will take place at 4.30pm and a Monsters Ball themed dolphin show starts at 5.30pm. Come dressed in your scariest Monsters Ball costume and enjoy plenty of frighteningly good performances, featuring Jono Johansen from the Voice.

Event: Ferguson Road Halloween

The community of Ferguson Road will transform their neighbourhood for the third Halloween running. Children and adults can go trick or treating on fright night through the spookily decorated homes along this street. The ghoulish goings-on begin at 5pm at the KZNSA Gallery, where there’s a frightfully fun colouring-in competition. This will be followed by spine-chilling stories by Peter John Hattingh. Trick or treating will take place from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at various spooky homes along Ferguson Road, ending up at a bring-and-braai Halloween themed dance, at the Berea Bowling Club. The year, funds had to be raised for public liability insurance and road closure, so there is a raffle (R10) for a Gunslinger long board on view at Urban Pizza.

Event: Halloween Night at Robsons on Point

Get your most creepy and chilling outfit on, and celebrate Halloween in style at Robsons on Point. There will be prizes for the best dressed, so make sure you’ve pulled out all the stops. It promises to be a devilishly fun night of live music, giveaways and spooky fun starting at 6.30pm.

Event: South African Horrorfest

The South African Horrorfest will give you chills to the bone and haunt your dreams. Treating horror lovers to the most gory flicks around, the curators of the festival have delved deep into the archives to find the rarest and most terrifying horror movies. This year the line-up highlights the creepy crawly, indie films and classic fan-favourites. Many of the flicks will make their South African or African debut. The Makabra Ensemble will be performing a chilling soundtrack the legendary 1932 French-German classic, Vampyr at 8.45pm.

Event: Halloween night run

Put on your most frightening costume, along with your running shoes and enter if you dare. The folks at Dirtopia are bringing thrills and chills to this Halloween, with a trail run through the Muratie Wine Estate. With both a 5km and a 10km to choose from, you can shorten or extend your spooky experience. All runners need to wear a headlamp - it’s dark and anything could be waiting for you out there. The top 3 men and women in each race will win prizes, and there will be a lucky draw for various prizes, including Muratie wines.

Event: Mystery Ghost Bus Tour

Take a terrifying tour of the city by hopping on this mystery ghost bus tour, starting at the Ferryman’s Tavern. On this tour you’ll visit some spooky places - maybe even see a ghoul or two. This one is for the thrill-seekers, to get your heart racing and tap into your love of all things spooky.

Event: Howl’oween

The Johannesburg Zoo will be hosting a hauntingly good How’loween party for the whole family. Ride the haunted train to meet the “Animals of the Amazon” and scarily large anacondas. Visit the vampire cave, enter the haunted house, meet the zoo ghosts and tour a spine chilling cemetery with wicked witches. End off your evening with the Wacky Magic Show, fire dancers and lots of other frightfully festive entertainment. The frights start at 5pm and run until 8pm.

Presented by the Women of Worth and the American Society of South Africa, this dinner and dancing Halloween event is spooktacular and stylish. Dress in your classy costume of creepiness to frighten or impress, and experience a delightful dinner and dance. Amazing items will be on auction, and all proceeds will go towards the Women of Worth Bursary Fund at the University of Pretoria, to benefit female students from Diepsloot studying in the maths and science fields. Event: Falcon Rock Halloween Night Trail Run

Put your running shoes on and attempt this spine-tingling 3km trail run or walk through the Troll Forest, if you dare. The whole family can experience the spookiest trick or treat track in PE. Be prepared to encounter rocks, roots and a few ghostly surprises. There will be a prize for the best dressed, so make sure you’re terrifyingly attired.
