DF Malan is the high school for young adults. It is a public school that adheres to world class standards of education and prepares all learners for life.
DF Malan High School offers a well-balanced programme, with a focus on academics – allowing learners to achieve their full potential academically, culturally and in sports. Within the school community, learners are given the tools they need to make a difference in their own lives, as well as to the community.
Academically, DF Malan High School matriculants have achieved meritoriously in the Western Cape examinations each year. In recognition of the high standards of the curriculum, DF Malan has been incorporated in the Cambridge University Excellence in Education publication. This profiles outstanding academic institutions around the world, and DF Malan was the only school from the Western Cape to be afforded this honour.
The school structure at DF Malan High School incorporates leadership opportunities for learners. In addition to this, there is a support structure built into the school to help in counteracting any difficulties students may experience. The psychological and counselling service falls under the Eduhelp programme at the school, and is overseen by a registered counselling psychologist. This service includes academic support and subject guidance, career counselling, advice on tertiary institutions, personal support, and the development of key life skills. The services of the facility are also available to parents and the greater community.
DF Malan offers a broad range of cultural activities, and these enrich the curriculum and develop important skills with broad applicability to every learner. These activities include a variety of musical groups, debating and public speaking, English creative writing, the school newspaper, and a talent show. There are also a selection of clubs at the school such as Adventure Club, Drama, Land Service, First Aid, Chess, and WHAAM. DF Malan High School is home to sporting excellence, with a number of learners achieving recognition and acclaim for their sporting endeavours.
Central to the development of learners is environmental and social responsibility. DF Malan is active in recycling, growing their own garden and the Green Fingers project, where learners engage in tree-planting. The school’s Assistance Fund helps to support families in need to purchase school uniforms, groceries and to keep families off the street.
