A haven for nature lovers looking for a peaceful, pristine wilderness hideaway

This genuine treasure is nestled in one of the Garden Routes sought after areas, Hoekwil (10 minutes drive to the Wilderness village). It remains one of the few coastal jewels where commercial development cannot happen, making this property a true haven for nature lovers looking for a peaceful, pristine wilderness hideaway.

Walking down the road of the roughly cleared plot one cannot help but fall deeply in love with the expansive view of the Wilderness National Park valley whilst hearing the sound of crystal clear water cascading over the waterfalls and trickling along the boulders in the Touws river and the hidden Touws river walkway below, bird singing and baboon bark echoes peacefully all around you.

The National Park is on your doorstep and neighbours two sides of 1013. This is a prime spot and privacy is guaranteed forever.

1013 Has been the core of many dream eco homes the owner have designed to capture the beautiful valley vista, open alfresco living spaces to invite all the sounds and smells of nature into the home so one can experience the tranquil wilderness with all your senses. It is a blank canvas from which to work.

The plot has many alien trees but these can easily be cleared. The plot is also home to many indigenous trees and shrubs, further down the dirt road is an escarpment bushed up by an indigenous forest one of the owners home designs included an open air shower with the escarpment as a backdrop it is a gorgeous area.

There is an Outeniqua Yellowwood on the property. In general, the age of an Outeniqua Yellowwood tree is estimated by multiplying the stem diameter (in cm) by four, hence a tree of 1 m stem diameter is at least 400 years old. These giants can live up to 1000 years. They are slow growers and this magnificent tree was one of the main reasons the owner purchased 1013. With a stem diameter of +/-40cm the trees age is around 160 years, barely a teenager. The owner scattered their much loved Staffies ashes at the trees base so it holds a precious space in their hearts.

Living next to a National Park gives you access to rugged landscapes, indigenous forests and incredible wildlife. Apart from the remarkable birdlife 1013s remoteness means encounters with Bushbuck, Blue Duiker, Caracal, Baboon (Wilderness baboons are so much furrier than their Highveld cousins), Vervet monkey, beautiful bush pigs with their glorious silver manes, the elusive Cape Leopard and of course not forgetting the Puff Adder not a strong selling point but evidence that nature still thrives in the Wilderness. With just their day visits to daydream on their plot they have seen all of the above except, thankfully, Leopard.

When they bought the property (decades ago) the road was a true 4x4 adventure however the road has vastly improved and sedans can (precautiously) drive down to 1013 one no longer needs to do the safari outfit, pack padkos (in case you get stuck) and switch into 4x4 gearing.

Water and electricity connections are available.

Not sure about internet connectivity and broadband speeds but with the available technologies quite sure this is something that is easily set up.

The property borders the Touws river below and the rights to access and store water from the river below are still to be confirmed.

1013 Will hold a special place for someone who enjoys an outdoors lifestyle and being immersed in nature.

And to quote the current owner We knew immediately when we drove into this property with John and had to idle on the road to allow a rather fat Puff Adder retreat to the safety of the bushes that this was a magical property. It was as though we had arrived home and belonged there. I cannot explain it any other way. Besides 1013 is my birthday 13th October it was like the universe was bringing us to this space at the time.
