245.3 ha Farm in Port Edward
KZN South Coast Producing Macadamia Farm
A Macadamia Nut unit like this does not come on the market every day, from its established nut producing area, to its unusual, reliable water source.
From its idyllic location, to its infrastructure. This farm is a must have to anyone wanting to invest in Macs or grow their operation. The farm already has the potential to produce north of 250 tons (DIS) of Macs per year and expected to peak at 600-800 tons a year with the existing trees. With more then 40ha of the trees being planted before 2006 and thus being in full production. The remaining 90ha of Macadamia trees are between between 3 to 9 years of age. Giving the farm approximately 130ha of producing nut trees. There is a further approximately 85ha under gum, this is presently under rotation and the owner is harvesting between 1000-1500 tons a year.
The subject farm is made up of 4 subdivisions, namely portion 14 and 4 of Umdoni Vale No. 8695 and portion 3 and 2 of Hanover No. 10599, with a total extent of 245ha. Portion 14 is under gravity irrigation, with the dairy dam on that portion as backup and equipped for fertigation. The Nut trees on portion 4 and 3 are also under irrigation, but the newest trees on portion 2 are not irrigated. Due to the farms average rain fall being 1100mm per year irrigation is normally supplementary.
The Mac growing operation on the farm has been ingeniously designed around its unusual water supply, which supplies the top of the farm with a reliable, quality water. The owners have recently installed state of the art equipment to handle de-husking, sorting, drying and packing of the nuts. This facility will allow for future growth and expansion.
