Fernwood has 24 separate chalets (with designs that sleep 6, 8 and 10 people) offering privacy and superb views, plus a club house with a swimming pool, tennis court, jungle gym and a games room, amongst other facilities. Horse riding is available and a locked pedestrian gate gives direct access to the Monks Cowl National Park, with hiking trails into the mountains. Fernwood also has two scenic dams for the casual catch and release fly fisherman.

Fernwood is not open to the general public, ensuring the tranquility and privacy of this unique Estate is maintained.

Fernwood operates as a share block scheme in terms of the Share Blocks Control Act. The annual levy includes servicing and utilities consumption.

Fernwood has a number of share block sequences (3 or 6 separate weeks occupation per year on a rotating roster basis) with both 3 and 4 bedroom chalets available for purchase. The self-catering luxury chalets are fully furnished, serviced daily and are equipped with WiFi and DSTV. There are 5 different chalet configurations.

Fernwood has been designated a site of conservation significance and is situated in the foothills of Cathkin Peak. The estate is immediately adjacent to the 260,000ha Monks Cowl Nature Reserve, itself a World Heritage Site, with Shareholders have direct access to the Maloti Drakensberg Park through an interleading pedestrian gate through the common fence. The Estate also borders on the Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey centre, and is near to the well-known Champagne Castle Hotel, and the Drakensberg Boys Choir school.
