Caesarstone South Africa's marketing director Trevor King shares the latest kitchen trends on Win A Home.
Surfaces are an important part of kitchen design. It’s very tactile, you’re constantly touching it, working on it. Keeping up with the latest trends of thinner surfaces, Caesarstone has recently introduced a 13mm slab. Trevor reminded us that the kitchen is becoming far more functional.
Caesarstone attended the Eurocucina exhibition at Milan Design Week in Italy, bringing back some kitchen trends inspiration. With the shift from fast food to 'slow' food, the same can be seen in kitchen design.
With a move back to honest, organic, authentic ingredients and food preparation, raw materials such as timber, marble, quartz and ceramics as well as metallics have made their way back into the kitchen, which helps to create a sense of authenticity and ‘old-world’ warmth for the chef and the guests.
Another trend that's made a comeback is open shelving. Open shelving creates a more inviting, personal space in the kitchen and while it can form part of the cabinets it can also be a stand alone unit showcasing fresh herbs and special crockery or cooking items.
The kitchen is no longer an isolated room, but a multifunctional space for cooking, relaxing and entertaining. This promoted kitchen designs to create a certain mood and atmosphere.
