In this episode Henck meets married couple, Johan and Rosie, who live in a 5-bedroom mansion in Montana, North of Pretoria. With their only child in university and ready to move out of the house, Johan and Rosie need to downsize.
Their huge property seems perfect for a large family but little problem areas are putting off potential buyers. With the help of property expert, Natasha Kruger from Aida, the team set their sights on the house and look at how they can make the property more appealing to buyers.
The problem areas
The big oval shaped living room on the second story is spacious but has bright yellow walls and is full of clutter.
The master bedroom looks amazing but the cracked tiles in the dressing room are off putting. Natasha suggests tiling it with mosaic tiles but Rosie is concerned that these might not match the tiles in the rest of the bedroom and suggests fitting a carpet. In the end, she reluctantly agrees to the mosaic tiles.
Construction consultant, Kevin, explains that he would like to install a ceiling fixture in the bedroom that will have extra lights hanging down on either side of the bed. This will be practical but will also add the "wow" factor to the room.
Work gets underway
Interior designer, Lara arrives and suggests putting in a wooden feature wall in the living area.
Kevin installs down-lights which mirror the oval shaped living room, and modernises the room by painting over the yellow walls with a light off-white colour.
Henck is not happy with the design of the wooden feature wall and decides to phone Lara, who asks him to leave it as is until she arrives. The next day Henck arrives at the property and decides to go completely rogue by taking off the wood on the wall. Lara walks in and stops him from ruining her feature wall. They reach a compromise by agreeing to use a wood-stain to make the wall pop. Henck takes the family away from the chaos and heads to the race track in Zwartkops. There he challenges the family in a race around the track but is soundly beaten.
On the final day Johan and Rosie point out that the ceiling box and realized is not in the centre of the room. The bed is supposed to go underneath the box and with its current position it leaves little room to move on the one side of the bed since the bed is now completely off centre. Henck explains that because the aircon sits on the wall, the team had to place the ceiling box off centre.
Henck phones Kevin who says that it is impossible to move the ceiling box before the potential buyers come to view the property. Johan and Rosie tell Henck that they are not happy but will see how it looks once the final installation has been completed.
The big reveal
The furniture gets delivered, the final touches are applied and the team gets ready to show the family what they have done in the last 72 hours.
The family are blown away by the living room. Rosie points out that she was scared that the white walls might make the area feel clinical but she feels that the wooden feature wall makes up for it and pulls the room together.
In the bedroom Rosie agrees that the ceiling box is in the right position - much to Henck's relief. They move onto the dressing room and Rosie is blown away by the mosaic tiles on the floor. Henck points out that the colours of the mosaic pulls together all the colours in the space, including the en-suite bathroom. The family love all the work done and they sit down at Natasha’s laptop to view potential buyers’ reactions.
The renovation is a success and Henck and the team head off to their next project.
