Greenery, the Pantone colour for 2017, has swept into fashion, art, décor and living spaces countrywide, and although the year is on its way out, this colour is going nowhere fast. While the bright refreshing tone of Greenery may not be for every taste, tones of green abound and with their calming, crisp and regenerative qualities have endless applications. A trend that embraces more than the hue itself, introducing green into your home is also about a way of life.
Lounge and dining
With bold botanicals and pattern hugely in fashion, introducing green into a living area is easy both through fabrics and wall-coverings. Consider a feature wall in a fabulous print, or an eye-catching couch or dazzling wingback. For those who don’t want to take the plunge, use green in scatters, vases or with bold indoor plants. Chocolate tones team wonderfully with green for a retro feel, while rich upholstery, textiles, brass studs and leathers pair well with minty or avo shades for a gentleman’s lounge look. Olive green is relaxing in a dining area, or opt for a lighter shade and punctuate with black and white. Introduce glasses and tableware in green and keep the look modern here too with hints of black.

A space that does best being calming and relaxing, green is a traditional favourite for bedrooms. Keep it on trend and upbeat with subtle shades paired with pale or raw woods and organic textures such as woven rugs, baskets, beads and throws. Throw in a hint of moody sophistication with a green-grey, pair with leather, metallics and bright white linen, punctuate with acid-green touches or throw in cobalt blues for a tropical zing.
Kitchen
Green works beautifully in kitchen areas because of its crisp, clean overtones as well as its link to nature. With many South Africans combining kitchen and entertainment spaces the indoor-outdoor living lends itself particularly well to a green colour way. For a fresh feel use apple greens and trim with white or opt for striking patterns on a feature wall. Many shades of green work well with metallics and lend a new look to stainless appliances and chrome hardware. Consider a green glass backsplash combined with dark granite countertops, or dark green cabinetry teamed with pale gold.

Bold colours give a room instant personality and a bright green is ideal for a stylish and lively guest bathroom. For a main en-suite create a breezy, serene room-scape with gentle greens, natural wood and white accents. Pair with raw brick walls and matt black shutters for an industrial feel, or screeded floors and tops and an indoor/outdoor shower for an organic note. To keep the room light paint ceilings and trim in white or exaggerate the overall hue of the room by varying the shades of green on the wall and trim.
