With the 2016 Wimbledon championships around the corner, why not feast your eyes on a few attractive palaces owned by the kings and queens of tennis?
Most people enjoy the finer things in life. For some, it’s owning an expensive car or traveling the seas, but for the likes of celebrity tennis players, it’s no secret that they enjoy treating themselves to a dreamy mansion or two.
We’ve spotted a few fancy homes that define the essence of luxury and take the idea of fine living to the extreme when off the courts. With tennis fever in the air, we couldn’t resist showing you some of the trendiest tennis star pads around the world:
- Andy Murray’s picture perfect hotel
2013 Wimbledon champion, Andy Murray, owns a striking apartment in leafy Surrey, but it’s his most recent investment that has everyone buzzing. The latest addition to Murray’s list of homes is the sprawling Victorian Estate, near to his hometown of Dunblane, Scotland, which he has since turned into a 15-bedroom luxury hotel. The dreamy Cromlix holds sentimental value for Murray as it was the wedding venue where he and longtime partner, Kim Sears, tied the knot in April 2015. Murray invested around 6 million pounds of his own fortune to refurbish the Cromlix Hotel - a place that is now considered a dream destination, offering a chic and classic country experience.
2. Serena Williams’ captivating condo
Serena Williams, the number one female player ranked by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), grabbed our attention with her previous Los Angeles Remington home. The simple and elegant condo was purchased by Williams in 2002 as one of her many retreats for almost 11 years, before choosing to sell in 2013. The 15th floor apartment offers an open-plan, sun-kissed living room, combining hardwood floors and pristine all white interior. The added luxury to the condo is the gourmet kitchen, in-house elevator, dual marble baths, limestone floors and walk-in closets, that make it the ideal place to call home.
3. Roger Federer’s whimsical waterfront residence
Multiple Wimbledon champion, Roger Federer, has a few lavish homes to his name, but it’s his Swiss residence next to Lake Zurich that we love most. The state-of-the-art three-storey penthouse was built from the ground up in 2014, exclusively for Federer. It is most admired for its extravagant floor to ceiling glass windows, large balconies and breathtaking views of the luxuriant waters surrounding the home. The penthouse has a total of 6.5 bedrooms and is split into two, to accommodate his parents who also reside in the lavish abode.
4. Anna Kournikova’s Miami mansion
During the height of her tennis career, Anna Kournikova, former tennis professional, splurged on a multimillion dollar Miami mansion in 2000. Kournikova spent a total of 12 years in her glorious Spanish-styled home on Sunset Island, before placing it on the market in 2012. The serene sanctuary comprises of 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, complete with high ceilings and exposed beams for that bright and airy feel. The residence also sports a two-story guesthouse for visitors and a coral deck pool and jacuzzi to escape that hot Florida sunshine.
5. Rafael Nadal’s calming Caribbean villa
Two-time winning Wimbledon champion, Rafael Nadal’s Caribbean villa has captured our hearts as our top 5 choice. Situated in the residential area, Playa Nueva Romana, this luxurious villa has been home to Nadal since 2012 and is more than just a fancy looking home. Besides the magical views overlooking the Caribbean sea, the villa also includes a wide range of outdoor facilities ranging from an indoor spa, pool and jacuzzi, a polo field, golf course, fitness centre, country club and of course his very own private tennis court situated close by.
