6 things you need to do to improve your LinkedIn profile

Why is your LinkedIn profile important?

LinkedIn is the one social network that is used primarily for business. Your LinkedIn profile works like an online CV and shows your experience and expertise to prospective clients and employers.

If a prospective client searches online for you, your LinkedIn profile will be one of the first results they see. It’s important therefore to make sure that your profile is up to date and shows you as the professional estate agent that you are.

Whether you have a LinkedIn profile that you haven’t updated for a while or want to set one up, here are 6 simple tips to create a great profile:

  • Update your photo. Make sure you use an updated professional photo. This is a professional network, so make sure you use a photograph that shows you as one. LinkedIn is not the right social network for pictures of your family and pets, or selfies.

  • Update your expertise and experience. Make sure list your professional experience for the last 5 or 10 years. For your current agency make sure you list how long you’ve been there, and what specific cities and areas you specialise in.

  • Update your keywords and skills. Make sure you have 5-10 keywords that reflect your expertise in your profile. Make sure these keywords are relevant to your brand!

  • Make sure you include links. You are allowed three links and they can be to anything. Make sure you have at least one to your agency website, your Facebook business page (if you have one), and a link to your profile on Private Property.

  • Write a recommendation for someone. One of the things to remember about LinkedIn is you need to give in order to get. Give recommendations to people that you’ve worked with and they will do the same for you. Being endorsed by other professionals will give your profile credibility.

  • Share articles: Share interesting articles related to the industry once a week. This shows that you are up to date with what is going on in the real estate industry.
