Pretoria's waterfront lifestyle proving popular

Demand for waterfront properties in Pretoria and surrounds is growing.

Waterfront living is a dream for most South Africans who adore the outdoor lifestyle. This lifestyle usually comes with spending quality time in nature, being able to indulge in water sports, tranquillity and remarkable views.

This is according to Stefanie Greyling, estate agent, Sable Hills Waterfront Estate, who says that there has definitely been a sharp increase in the popularity of waterfront living in the last few years: prices have increased and the demand has exploded. The growing demand for waterfront properties accounts for the increase in popularity of these locations.

Sable Hills Waterfront Estate offers a modern gymnasium with private trainers, tennis and squash courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool with a sun deck and a volleyball court, and with Curro Private School adjacent to Sable Hills, residents’ can even let their children walk to school in total safety. The prices range from R2,8m to R15m for property between 350m² and 1,200m². Sable Hills Waterfront Estate is situated on the banks of the Roodeplaat Dam, north-east of Pretoria.

Johann Jordaan, owner of the Rawson franchise, says that waterfront living at the Roodeplaat Dam is becoming an extremely luxurious option, as buyers want to achieve their dream and are prepared to pay a premium to obtain it.

Another waterfront estate within easy commuting distance from Pretoria is Pecanwood Golf Estate in Hartbeespoort. According to Graham Blanckenberg, licensee, [Seeff] Pecanwood1, this estate has golf, water sports, a great private school and 21st century security to offer.

Even though estates with a location close to water are often far from the city and access routes, the distance residents have to drive is, according to Blanckenberg, outweighed by the advantages of the lifestyle.

Driving home to a peaceful atmosphere where you can indulge in everything that makes you feel alive is definitely worth it

says Greyling.

Sable Hills offers residents the following amenities:

  • Clubhouse
  • Restaurant
  • Splash pool for kids
  • Beauty salon
  • Olympic-size swimming pool
  • Two jetties
  • Free-roaming game, such as giraffe, wildebeest, kudu, zebra and impala
  • A variety of bird life
  • Boathouses to rent
  • Game drives and hiking trails

Hartbeespoort Dam and surrounds
Oasis in the mountains
Hartbeespoort is a small resort town situated on slopes of the Magaliesberg Mountain and the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam. This "poort" in the Magaliesberg was a popular spot for hunters, where they cornered and shot the hartebeest many years ago. Watersports such as para-sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, tubing and boat cruises are very popular on the dam. This neighbourhood is vibrant and full of life, with a great social scene.
Northern Pretoria
It's all about family
Northern Pretoria is a quiet suburb that lies nestled virtually in the foothills of the Magaliesberg. Almost in a world of its own, with its subtropical climate. The smallholdings that made up the area have been transformed into a lively neighbourhood with hospitals, shopping centres, restaurants and coffee shops.
